Please note these are deer resistant, if a deer is hungry enough they will eat just about anything.

Deer Resistant Evergreens:

Skimmia – an evergreen ground cover that does particularly well in the shade and sports red berries when there is a male pollinator in the vicinity.

Boxwood. – enough said.

Juniper – for those hot sunny spots.

Green Giant Arborvitae.  If you need a fast-growing instant screen from neighbors, this is your plant!

Andromeda – A great choice for a partly shady spot.  New growth adds a pop of color and clusters of bell-shaped flowers in spring. Scarlet O’Hara will take care of your miniature needs while Dorothy Wyckoff and Mountain Fire will grow up to 6 foot tall.  

Leucothoe – a great shady evergreen groundcover.  Added bonus – its flowers will attract all the pollinators.

Deer Resistant Flowering Shrubs:

Potentilla –  a midsummer flower in shades of white, pink and yellow.

Kolkwitzia ‘Dream Catcher’ (Beautybush) – an old-fashioned vase shaped shrub with arching branches that bloom in spring.  Chartreuse leaves brighten up any shady spot. 

Scotch Broom – We have Moonlight, Golden yellow, and even red and pink.

Enkianthus – This is a little known gem that we are just head over heels for, mainly because of its fall color!!!   Autumn brings about a spectacular technicolor foliage. It runs the gamut. In mid to late spring it bears just the daintiest clusters of white or red bell flowers.  It’s the perfect candidate for a partially shaded woodland garden.

Deer Resistant Natives

Arctostaphylos (Bearberry) – a perfect little evergreen groundcover that bears tiny bell-shaped flowers in spring. 

Arrowwood Viburnum  – It’s a triple threat apart from being native.  It’s deer resistant, has fall color foliage and berries, while flowering in the spring.
